[CLClist] An important web site for immigrants and those serving them

I am posting this to a few lists so I apologize if you receive this more
than once.  It just that I think as many library staff as possible
should be aware of this resource.  

Thanks to Homa Naficy I attended a meeting yesterday of the Hartford
Gateway Advisory Group (a group of agencies and organizations serving
immigrants in Hartford).  The meeting included a presentation by Carlos
Munoz-Acevedo from the U. S. Office of Citizenship.  As part of his
presentation he urged us to look at www.welcometousa.gov.  This is an
amazing resource for immigrants and people and organizations serving the
immigrant population.  If you have immigrants in your community who are
looking for you to help them find information about life in the United
States  you need to take a look at it.

And, much more.

Take a look and you'll see what I mean.

Also, let me take a moment to encourage those of you serving immigrant
and multilingual populations to join the Welcome list serve.  Whenever
anyone on the list sees resources like this we post it to that list. 
You can ask questions of others serving diverse communities and share
information and resources.   There isn't a lot of traffic on the list so
you won't be swamped with e-mails but you will get lots of good
information from it.  

How to Subscribe to Welcome:

    * Go to: http://mylist.net/listinfo/welcome 
    * Scroll down to “Subscribing to Welcome”
    * Enter your e-mail address, name and a password in the boxes
provided.
    * Click on Subscribe and you’re done!

Once subscribed you will be able to post messages to
Welcome at mylist.net. Those messages will go to all the people
already subscribed to the list.
