[CLClist] Grey House Preview books

I did reply to Hali off-list, but since we are discussing this on-list,
here is what I sent her:

I've had this experience with Grey House in two libraries that I've been
at - in the first one the Director (not me) just kept the books and said
"thank you very much for the gift". In the second (I was the Director),
I sent them back after I call them and told them "don't do that again".
Grey House does some great books, but their business practice could us
some work.

I know Hali requested replies offlist, but I think this is important
enough to send out to all. I have received many calls from Grey
House, and I always say no thanks. This fall I received a reference
book and a letter thanking me for my interest (I had none). My aide
called them to say we were not interested, and were sending the book
back, which we did. We have since received many harrassing phone
calls requesting payment, and just this week I received a call, and my
principal received a letter, from a collection agency! I am furious,
and finally reached the sales person at Grey House who promised to
take care of the credit agency (she confirmed that we had indeed sent
the book back). I never want to hear from Grey House Publishing
again. -Barb Lyons
